Zaouia moualay idriss : fes city



In the heart of Fez, not far from the souk Attarine, in a monument that is today one of the oldest in the city, lies Moulay Idriss II. The tomb of this Moroccan king, considered as the founding father of Fez.

Is one of the most beautiful historical sites of the city. Built in the Xth century then several times renovated, this mausoleum extends on 2 548 square meters and is commonly called "Zaouïa Moulay Idriss".

The zawiya's most prominent external features are its minaret, the tallest in the old city of Fez, and the large green-tiled pyramidal roof over the mausoleum chamber. As a result, it is one of the most visible and easily identifiable buildings on the old  medina 's skyline.
